Overview
Mestia, the main town of the Svaneti region, is a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its medieval defensive towers and stunning mountain scenery. Located at 1,500 meters in the heart of the Greater Caucasus, this remote region preserves one of Georgia's most ancient and unique cultures.
The iconic Svan towers, built between the 9th and 13th centuries, dot the landscape like stone sentinels. These defensive structures, combined with traditional stone houses and churches filled with ancient frescoes, create a living museum of medieval architecture.
Mestia serves as a base for exploring the magnificent Svaneti region, offering access to some of the Caucasus' most spectacular trekking routes, including the famous trek to Ushguli, Europe's highest continuously inhabited settlement. The region's isolation has preserved unique traditions, language, and customs that date back millennia.
